Just like its name, South kitui national reserve is located on the southern part of Kitui county, on the south Eastern Kenya. It is located on the north of Tsavo national park, in a hot and dry region of Kenya where the climate variates between hot and cool depending on the time of the year. Its altitude ranges between 1,829 to 3,994 meters above the sea level.

Established on September 1979, South Kitui national reserve spans an area of 1,833 square kilometers. It’s forest is a tropical savannah characterized by mainly short thickets, grassland, the acacia trees and Baobab which makes the reserve a site to behold.

The national reserve is home to a range of animal species. It offers an adventurous game viewing expedition where visitors can enjoy   watching herds of grazing Zebras, dik-diks. Gerenuk, gazelles, gemsbok, waterbuck, Elephants and the endangered lesser kudu which makes the area worth reserving. Due to the proximity of Tsavo national park of the south of South Kitui national reserve the nature fauna relocates to and from the park at any time over the year.

There is also the thrill of watching the carnivores in their game. The presence of hunters like the lions and the leopards keeps the primates on alert while grazing or when drinking water. There is also a variety of natural bird species that inhabit the reserve.
